Climate change will continue to worsen extreme weather conditions in the future, we are already feeling these effects now. Because of this, our experience of urban spaces will change radically.

How can cities adapt to these new extreme climate conditions?

In this project, I made an improved proposal for Barcelona's "climate shelter" network. Working with their open data, I created more accessible UI and a more instinctive symbol for urban signage.

While studying in the New Media MA at Aalto Media Lab, I have joined the Digital Art & Design Association (DADA). In the association, I take care of Corporate Relations and Outreach, but I am also working on a brand identity and visual communication system for DADA.

The concept of metamorphosis and constant flux accurately represents a multidisciplinary place such as the Media Lab. DADA advocates for student's interests and organises events, among them the audiovisual festival ÄÀniAalto, interactive exhibition Flux Island and the Demo Days.
This project is a work in progress.

In a light and humorous tone, the website Dwellers of the Memory Palace invites the participant to rediscover their domestic space by engaging with it through a series of uplifting self-reflections. Quirky routine modifications, embodiment and multi-sensory triggers build a real-life memory palace for guidance and meditation, finding metaphors, poetry and advice in our everyday actions.

In my thesis, I explore the existing hierarchy of the senses and grapple with the new possibilities offered by interactive and immersive technologies, particularly for their applications in branding. I also ponder my role as a hybrid designer in the future of design as I see it.

A re-design of the book Invisible Cities published in 1972 by Italo Calvino, inspired by research into the typography and layout of the original 13th century travels of Marco Polo (Livres des Merveilles du Monde) by Rustichello da Pisa.

An in-depth investigation into the history of the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague during the Second World War. Since this period was unexpectedly undocumented online, I extracted most of the content from the Haags Gemeentearchief. A story with anti-aircraft guns on the roof, a Nazi radio station in the bike shed, removed teachers and an oppressed student body unfolds in a series of four posters that document my research process.

Level The Playing Field is a web-based game adapted from a 1975 promotional board game by the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions. I reworked the linear board game structure and transformed it into an interactive decision tree (made on Twine) that visualises the ways a worker could find professional success being a union member.

Cover design for Belgian author Lize Spit's second novel titled Ik Ben Er Niet (I'm Not Here), published by Das Mag. My design emulates the story of a young woman who one day realises she no longer recognises her own boyfriend and wonders how their relationship will survive this. Lize Spit's first novel, Het Smelt (The Melting), sold over 200,000 copies, was translated to 12 languages and won various prizes.

An interactive exploration of a counter-occupied apartment in the context of a fictional social movement in response to the intense touristification of city centers. The exorbitant rents force the locals to move out, resulting in cities that resemble tourist theme parks.
In my movement, people would β€œoccupy” tourist rentals and start paying reasonable long-term rent, and actively engage in the community again. You can discover the story of the movement through the objects spread throughout the rooms.

An identity for a techy community garden with a focus on sustainability and permaculture, built & run by the Interactive Media Design BA and volunteers at the KABK. They grow food and medicinal herbs, install sensors to monitor the plants, organise events and promote well-being by opening the use of this space to everyone.

As a class, we put together a list of events, people, art, etc. that influenced our lives in important ways. From this list of entries in chronological order, I made a second list by reacting in associative ways and linking each event to a new fact or story. On the website, the visitor can match the pairings to reveal new meanings or they can scroll through each list individually.

Two texts collected and designed as a booklet that result in a review of a book within a review of a book and several perspectives on the contemporary use of the English language. The texts include David Foster Wallace's essay Tense Present: Democracy, English, and the Wars over Usage, together with Maud Newton’s Another Thing to Sort of Pin on David Foster Wallace, a review for the New York Times Magazine of the aforementioned text.

A video combining 3D animations and found footage that criticises Wikileaks for recklessly exposing the personal information of millions of vulnerable Turkish women during the 2016 post-coup d’état authoritarian crackdown. Contrasting symbolic illustration and found footage, it calls for us to re-think who has access to our personal data online.

Warning: some violent footage

A book about the shipping forecast, in which I have curated and designed three different texts: An informative article, the shipping forecasts I collected myself and poems by various authors inspired by the forecasts. The forecasts have been typographically treated so that the tone changes from telegraphic to poetic.

A re-design of the book The Architecture of Happiness by Swiss philosopher Alain de Botton on how architecture reflects human ideals of beauty and ethics through the ages. Woven in between chapters are additional but related texts: a 99pi article on the history of the Bijlmermeer public housing complex and designer Antoni Arola's reflections on his travels in Mali.
